Rusty Numbat (Myrmecobius fasciatus ssp. rufus)

The Rusty Numbat, a subspecies of the beautiful and cute Australian Numbat was described in 1923, originally as a distinct species.

The subspecies, which apparently inhabited southern Australia, is said to have differed from the ‚common‘ Numbat by the more reddish fur on its back.

The status of this taxon, however, stills needs to be confirmed, and it may be identical with the nominate race that still exists.
